EXPOSED AGGREGATE

There are a lot of different styles and finishes when it comes to having a driveway. There are options from tiles to gravel, to just having a plain concrete one. However, there is one, above all, that is especially desirable, and that is an exposed aggregate driveway. Exposed aggregate Perth driveways come up great and are a very popular choice of finish in Perth, and when done professionally add value to your home.

With an exposed aggregate driveway, you are able to create one off colours, styles and designs without breaking your budget! These are just a few quick reasons why an exposed aggregate driveway is the popular ‘go to’ driveway choice for homeowners.

What is Exposed Aggregate?

Before we go on though, you may want first to understand what exposed aggregate is. It is a finish that is obtained by pouring concrete and then removing what we call the outer “skin” of cement in order to show the decorate aggregate (stones) underneath that you have chosen. The most common uses for exposed aggregate in Perth is for things like alfresco areas, driveways, patios, pool surrounds and paths. It is non slip and works really well on surfaces that get wet – eg driveways, paths and outdoor solutions.

How to Maintain Your Exposed Aggregate Driveway

Exposed aggregate driveways are very simple to maintain which is another added bonus. I mean, who really wants to be spending their Sunday raking or scrubbing their driveway??? I know I certainly don’t… If you have a hose and a broom you are set! Actually, if you are a fussy neat freak, you can even use a high pressure hose to really get stuck into the cleaning of your exposed aggregate driveway and then sit back and marvel at your handy work.

Styles and Colour Choices for Your New Driveway

Exposed aggregate range of colours is almost endless. This is because you can either custom make your mix from whatever colour stones you choose (These stones can be anything from basalts and granite, local stones to quartz and limestone) or, you can pick from one of our local concrete company's that already have colors pre-mixed and ready to go. The color patterns are unique; the surfaces can be of a different texture, and in the light they are all beautiful to look at. Nothing truly beats an exposed aggregate driveway, and believe it or not people actually go find houses purely just to find these types of driveways because of their beauty and classy appeal. You mightn’t be the type of person who falls into the above category however if you are looking for a low maintenance, long lasting, value adding solution for the outside of your home then an exposed aggregate driveway just might be the answer you are looking for.

Exposed aggregate concrete has a rugged and coarse texture, which is what gives it a unique look and feel. This is produced by allowing stones and other materials to be visible on the top layer of concrete. We start by laying concrete in the usual manner by staking form boards into the correct postions, pouring the concrete mixture over the foundations and spreading it evenly.A retarder is then sprayed over the top of the concrete which stops the surface from going hard. After the concrete has set, the surface is washed off to expose the aggregate. We then leave it for a couple of days, and upon return we give one last wash with acid to remove any impurities the stones may have. We then inish with a high gloss sealer so you have that fresh new look all year round.
